I was just walking down the street during my lunch break, when a car swerved into a driveway right in front of me. I didn’t have enough time to be startled, as the window rolled down and a friendly face beamed inside.
“Hey!” I shouted, “How’s it going?”
“Great,” my friend replied.
“What brings you to this part of town?”
“I was just heading home when I saw you.”
“Thanks for flagging me down,” I smiled.
“I just wanted to let you know, I just came from a job interview” he began, “and they asked me who was the best boss I ever had, and I told them it was you!”
I blushed, and thanked him kindly.
He reminded me why he thought that.
You see, during his interview I asked him to pick out any two members of my team, and if they were open to it, they could go behind closed doors and answer any question in complete privacy, without repercussion. I was never to know what they said.
I told him at the time, “If you don’t like what you hear, I don’t want you on this team… but if you like what you hear, you are always welcome!”
Trust lasts.
